For imporving the quality of life IoT marked itself to one of the main contributors hence it is growing rapidly to acheive the goals. Technological advancement and immense growth is the main factors for the development of IoT to the next level. Low cost IoT devices and cheaply available is the key for continuous growth and adoption of IoT. The need of Operating system for IoT is arises for the advancement to support newly developed IoT hardware so that it can support standards and techniques for all the communication layers and the way forward.The range of IoT OS availability needs to support interoperability that requires to comply with trendy set of rules for improvement and protocol functionalities to aid heterogeneous deployment scenarios. IoT requires to be shrewd to self-adapt in accordance to the network conditions. In this paper, we present short overview of extraordinary IoT OSs, supported hardware, and future research directions. Therein, we grant overview of the widespread papers in our Special Issue on IoT OS management: opportunities, challenges, and solution. Finally, we conclude the manuscript.
